Reminder California: Healthcare Workers Minimum Wage Increase Effective July 1, 2025

As a reminder for healthcare employers in California, new minimum wage requirements are now in effect for nonexempt healthcare workers.


Minimum Wage Rates

  • $24/hour: Applies to hospitals or integrated health systems with 10,000 or more full-time employees, large county-run healthcare facilities, and dialysis clinics.
  • $18.63/hour: Applies to small county-run healthcare facilities and “safety net hospitals,” including those with high government payer mixes and rural independent hospitals.


Covered Facilities: This law applies to a wide range of healthcare settings, including:

  • General acute care and psychiatric hospitals
  • Integrated health systems
  • Hospital-operated skilled nursing facilities
  • Dialysis clinics
  • Outpatient clinics, urgent care, and surgical centers
  • Physician groups and hospital-affiliated home care


Exclusions: State Department of State Hospitals, tribal clinics, and stand-alone skilled nursing facilities not operated by hospitals.
