As a reminder for all Minnesota employers, starting January 1, 2026, new minimum wage rates will take effect statewide and, in the cities of Minneapolis, and St. Paul. Employers should review these changes to ensure compliance.
Statewide Rates
- Minimum Wage: $11.41 per hour (up from $11.13).
- 90-Day Training Wage: $9.31 per hour for employees under 20 during their first 90 days.
- Tip Credit: Not allowed; employers must pay the full minimum wage.
City-Specific Rates
Minneapolis: $16.37 per hour for all employers, effective January 1, 2026.
St. Paul
- Large businesses (101+ employees): $16.37 per hour on January 1, 2026.
- Small businesses (6–100 employees): $16.37 per hour on July 1, 2026.
- Micro businesses (5 or fewer employees): $14.25 per hour on July 1, 2026.
Employer Responsibilities
- Posters: Updated minimum wage posters will be available this fall and must be displayed where employees can easily see them.
- Employee Notices: Provide written notice of any pay rate changes before they take effect.
