What happened?

On June 10, 2025, Governor Chris Sununu signed Senate Bill 29 into law, requiring health care facilities in New Hampshire to submit monthly reports of workplace violence incidents to the Department of Labor.

Overview:

What the Law Does: Senate Bill 29 strengthens workplace safety in health care settings by expanding reporting requirements and oversight. Starting August 9, 2025, health care facilities must report incidents of workplace violence or hostile words directed at employees—not just annually, but every month.

  • Monthly Reports: Facilities must submit detailed monthly reports to the Department of Labor using a standardized form.
  • Annual Reports: Facilities must continue submitting annual reports to the Health Care Workplace Safety Commission, now with non-confidential aggregate data.
  • Expanded Oversight: State-operated medical facilities are now included under the commission’s jurisdiction.
  • Commission Membership: Hampstead Hospital gains representation on the commission.
  • Employee Protections: The law prohibits retaliation against employees who report incidents in good faith.
