What happened?

On June 26, 2024, Governor Kathy Hochul signed Senate Bill (SB) 9369, which extends some deductions for 2 more years.

What are the details?

Bites for Employers:

  • Extends a beneficial labor law for two years.
  • Allows employers to make wage deductions for specific goods and services with employee consent.
  • Enables collaboration between employers and service providers like health clubs, daycare centers, and parking vendors.
  • Changes previous restrictions on wage deductions, offering more flexibility and benefits.
  • Employees are fully informed about the terms of all voluntary deductions.
  • Addresses inadvertent overpayment due to errors, allowing for recapture of such overpayments.
  • Provides a framework for employers to give wage advances, helping employees manage financial setbacks or unexpected expenses.
  • The law’s extension will continue to offer flexibility to employers and financial security to employees.

Business Considerations

  • Employers should take advantage of the extension to offer a wider range of benefits to their employees, including deductions for goods and services that are beneficial to the employee.
