Reminder for employers in New York: Maximum Unemployment Insurance Benefit Increase to $869

As a reminder for all employers in New York, on October 8, 2025, the state increased the maximum weekly Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefit from $504 to $869.

  • No action is required from claimants: benefits will be automatically recalculated based on previously reported gross earnings.
  • The updated rates will be reflected in payments starting the week of October 13.

This change was made possible by the Governor’s FY 2026 Budget, which included a $7 billion investment to repay the federal UI Trust Fund loan and restore fund solvency. As a result, employers can expect reduced UI contribution rates, with projected savings of approximately $100 per employee in 2026 and $250 in 2027.

This increase strengthens New York’s unemployment safety net and provides greater financial support to workers during periods of job loss.
