Reminder Tennessee: THRC Dissolved as of July 1, 2025 – Civil Rights Enforcement Now with AG’s Office

As a reminder for Tennessee employers, effective July 1, 2025, the Tennessee Human Rights Commission (THRC) will be dissolved. Enforcement of the Tennessee Human Rights Act (THRA) and the Tennessee Disability Act (TDA) will be transferred to the Civil Rights Enforcement Division within the Office of the Attorney General. This change was enacted by the 114th General Assembly through HB 910 / SB 861.

  • Pending complaints with the THRC: will be dismissed as of June 30, 2025. Individuals may re-file with the Attorney General’s office starting July 1.
  • Title VI enforcement: will move to the Department of Human Resources (DOHR). Complaints should be filed within 180 days.
